Discipline Yourself To Spend Less

December 6, 2009 · Filed Under Life After Bankruptcy

If you are currently living paycheck to paycheck then it is time to discipline yourself to spend less. After all what will you do if you have to take time off from work, or a child gets sick?
These are things that you have to begin taking into consideration. It can be dangerous to live paycheck to paycheck. However if this is your circumstances; you are not the only one. Over 70% of our society lives paycheck to paycheck.

That is the reason that if someone becomes hurt and is out of work for a small amount of time; they are considering filing bankruptcy. Many people do not have the finances to carry them over for at least six months.

You can discipline yourself to spend less and I wanted to provide you some tips that you could begin using today to ensure that you begin living within your means.

Create a realistic budget that you and your family can live by. Remember once you break the habit of spending too much it will become easier to discipline yourself to spend less.

You may find it difficult at first to stick to your budget; however one thing you have to remember when you are trying to change your old habits is that it takes at least 21 days to develop new habits. If you are married then watch each other closely and if one of you spends money that is not allotted in the budget; then you are going to have to work together to get back on track.

Stop carrying around your credit cards. I would advise that you only keep one in case of an emergency. Make sure that you keep the one that has the best interest rates or has some kind of incentive that will help you accrue air mileage or other benefits if you do have to use it.

If you happen to get a raise at work or learn how to make more money; do not alter your spending habits. Use the extra money to pay off debts or start a savings account so that you can can have a “nest egg” if you ever have to take time off from work. Click Here
