Hidden Costs Of Bankruptcy
People who are trying to decide should I file bankruptcy tend to believe that they can escape a pile of debt without paying the price. Not many people are aware of the hidden costs of bankruptcy. As a matter of fact with the number of bankruptcies that were filed last year; it shows that we as americans have way too much debt.
While I personally had to file bankruptcy back in 2007 because of a business deal that went belly up; I still believe that it should be the last option that people should use unless they have absolutely no other method of breaking free from the debt that they have accrued. I personally know a friend who has decided to file bankruptcy because she does not want to pay back the debts that she accrued last year.
However with the hidden cost of bankruptcy; do we really get off Scott free? Bankruptcy has its percussion that will end up scarring you for several years to come. We all know that creditors will not take too kindly towards people who have had to file. I personally know that it can be difficult to get great loan rates for school or for anything else that you want to accomplish. After all who really wants to lend someone money when you know that they had trouble in the past to make their payments.
If you have looked at your finances and you know that their is no other options; then you may want to consider the hidden costs of bankruptcy. I have listed some of the negatives of filing and hopefully they will make your decision about whether you should file or not.
1. Bad Credit: Your credit will most likely be scared for the next 10 years and you will have to work hard on rebuilding your credit. While it can be done it is going to take a lot of work to get back to the good credit that you once had.
2. Exempt Credit: This means that there are certain things that can not be written off in a bankruptcy. Regardless of what we all want to believe filing bankruptcy does not always mean that we will become debt free. Back taxes and school loans can not be written off in a bankruptcy.
3. Fees: Unfortunately you are going to discover the hidden costs of filing bankruptcy. You are going to be bombarded with attorney fees and even if you decide to file on your own you still will be required to pay some fees to get out from underneath the mountain of debt.
