My Personal Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Story

February 14, 2010 · Filed Under My Personal Bankruptcy Story

As most of you know who have been reading my blog; I personally had to file chapter 7 bankruptcy about two years ago. I have been sharing my personal bankruptcy story with my readers in hope of being able to save someone from having to go through this experience as well. Many people avoid the “B” word as though if it is mentioned it will cause them to have to file as well. I know because when I was faced with the decision of whether or not to file; I was filled with fear and felt like a complete failure.

I had become depressed after all I was getting ready to turn 33 and at that point in my life; I should have all my financial circumstances in place. No one should be trying to decide whether or not they should have to file bankruptcy or have to begin looking for an alternative to filing.

It all began when I was trying to better my life and started a business. I had no previous business experience; however I thought I could make it happen. I did not want the distraction of my day job; so I gave them two weeks notice. I believed that I could make my business take off. Well long story short; the business failed and I had to get a part time job. However the part time job that I got did not pay anywhere near to the amount that my regular day job used to pay. Therefore I did not make enough money to pay my monthly payments. I took out my 401k to try to prevent from filing; that ran out and I had no other option.

I felt depressed and worthless after all no one wants to be faced with “what are the neighbors going to think?” What about my family? How do I tell my brother that I failed in business? Well after I got through those feelings and spoke to my personal bankruptcy attorney I felt somewhat better.

He told me that the hardest part is asking for help! He said that most people will not ask for help because they let their feelings about feeling ashamed get the best of them. In fact he also mentioned that most people are only 1 paycheck away from having to file bankruptcy. The statistics that he mentioned blew me away; after all no one wants to face the same situation that I had to face; yet so many of them are extremely close.

That is the reason that I decided to share my personal chapter 7 bankruptcy story. I want people to be aware that something has to change in their financial situation. I am currently in the process of rebuilding my credit so that I can get back on financial track. In fact I highly recommend that you do everything that you can to avoid bankruptcy by Clicking Here.
