Why Declaring Bankruptcy Makes Us Feel Like Failures

October 24, 2011 · Filed Under My Personal Bankruptcy Story

I do not know about anyone else and I can only speak for myself; however since I had to face the dilemma of having to deal with declaring bankruptcy; I have had to deal with my emotions and feelings.

Sure it is nice that I do not have to worry about my debt anymore or my financial crisis anymore. Yet I tend to still feel like a failure some days. Getting on with your life after bankruptcy is not the easiest thing to do.

I had a job and spent over 8 hours a day working for the same company for over 8 years and one day they just came and told me that they did not need me anymore. I was making great money at $23.00 per hour; that is not an income that you can easily replace.

Of course it hurt and what hurt worse was that I put all my energy into helping a company grow and then realizing that they did not care about me. I was totally dependent on that company and my finances proved it. When they let me go and decided not to bring me back my income stopped coming in.

I swore from that day on that I would never put myself in that situation again. It is terrible to have someone hold your financial destiny in their hands. I was not any different than most people who live in this society. Many people are dependent on their income from their jobs.

Most people would not be able to survive a layoff if there job decided that they did not need them anymore. Can you honestly say that you could survive a layoff? This is one of the reasons that I felt like a failure.

I was upset with myself for having relied completely on a company to make all my income. While I am still working for a company and they provide me a check that helps me pay my bills; the truth is that most of my income comes from my business that I am doing online. I refuse to rely on someone for my income after all I do not want to have to put myself in that same situation ever again. Click Here
