Your Credit Score After Bankruptcy

February 17, 2010 · Filed Under Credit score

Anyone who has just filed bankruptcy understands the importance of rebuilding their credit score after bankruptcy. You have decided to wipe out your debts with this option; however now you have to pay the price of cleaning up and rebuilding your credit. Do not worry regardless of why you ended up in this situation; you can begin taking the proper steps to ensure that you can get back on your feet.

The first thing that anyone should do right after filing bankruptcy is get a free copy of their credit report. This is to ensure that nothing is on your credit report that should not be. You will also want to see what happens to your credit score. After bankruptcy you are going to notice that your score has dropped significantly.

When I filed mine dropped from the 700’s to the 500’s this was a significant drop; however it is to be expected and nothing to worry about. By now you have already done your research and learned that there are percussions that you have to pay whenever you decide to move forward with the process. While no one likes to deal with the consequences it is a part of the deal. You get to get a “fresh start” however in return for this start you have to deal with the bad credit.

Once you have gotten over the initial shock of your credit score; it is time to begin looking for new credit. Do not worry it is not going to be difficult to find new credit; as a matter of fact you will begin receiving many offers in the mail for credit cards and loans.

Do not make the mistake of accepting all these offers; you want to refrain from getting back into debt. However you do need to accept at least one of the offers with a credit card that has a balance of at least $1,000 to $2,000. Never charge the card higher than you can afford to pay in full each and every month.

Your main goal is to raise your credit score after bankruptcy. You never want to begin getting into debt again; otherwise you will find yourself facing the same situation again. Click Here
